Moving .co.uk domains out of GoDaddy

Danica Patrick The GoDaddy GirlGoDaddy.com don’t do .co.uk domains anymore, but I had one stuck in there. Normally if you want to move the registrar with a .co.uk domain name it is very straightforward, you just tell the current registrar to update the IPSTAG to the tag owned by the new registrar and that is it.

After much looking around on the GoDaddy site I couldn’t see how to update the IPSTAG, so I used their support ticket system. Happily I got an answer within 4 hours, but unhappily they said ‘We do not support the IPSTAG and cannot help you with this transfer.  I went to my new host (Tollon in the UK) and asked them, I was on the verge of giving up when I received this support email from Gary at Tollon:

“Hi Rick,
You can request a transfer of the domain on Nominet’s website. Go to nominet.org.uk, click the “Registrants” link on the top line of menus; click the “Transferring my domain name to some else” link; click “Online Services”. Your next step depends on whether you have am account or not. The instructions are on the screen for both situations. Let me know if you have any problems.”

This I did and I had it all sorted transferred and done in about 30mins, brilliant! Thank You to all concerned.  I’d still recommend using GoDaddy as a registrar for TLDs like .com, .org, .net – but if you have any .co.uk domains in there, I’d get them out of there as fast as possible.

The other good thing about GoDaddy is of course Danica Patrick, the GoDaddy girl who makes you want to buy a domain name.
